Frequently asked questions

How Omid57.info works, where the headlines come from, how often they are updated and how media outlets can suggest a news source.

What is Omid57.info?

Omid57.info is a free news overview in five editions: English for the United States and the United Kingdom, German, Spanish and Persian. Each edition shows the latest headlines from selected media in one place, sorted by time and divided into politics, world, economy, tech, culture and sports. Every headline links to the full article at the original outlet.

You do not need an account, and nothing has to be installed.

Who runs the site?

Omid57.info is run by Omid Jamshidi from Norheim in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. Full provider details are in the imprint, and more about the project is on the about page.

Where do the headlines come from?

From the public news feeds (RSS or Atom) that the media themselves publish for readers and news apps. These are the outlets each edition currently uses:

This list is generated from the site's live configuration, so it always matches what you see in the news lists.

Does Omid57.info write its own news?

No. The headlines and excerpts belong to the outlets named next to them, and every item links to the original. We do not rewrite, shorten or comment on news items.

Our own writing is in the Guides section (linked at the bottom of every page): background articles that explain topics behind the news.

How often is the site updated?

Our server checks the feeds every few minutes. New items appear as soon as an outlet publishes them in its feed. Items older than three days are removed automatically, so the lists always show current news.

What exactly is shown for each item?

The headline, the name of the outlet and the time of publication. For some outlets we also show a short excerpt from the feed of at most 160 characters. For publishers based in Germany, the European Union or the European Economic Area we show only the headline, out of respect for their press publishers' rights. We do not show the publishers' photos.

How are items sorted into sections?

Automatically, by keywords in the headline and the excerpt. Specialist outlets (sports, technology, business) keep their own section. Because this happens without human review, an item can occasionally land in the wrong section. If you notice this, please tell us.

Why do I sometimes see the same story from several outlets?

Because several outlets reported on it. Identical items from the same outlet are removed, but we keep different outlets' reports on the same event on purpose: comparing how they cover it is one of the reasons to read an overview.

How do you choose the news sources?

We look for established media with clear editorial responsibility and a legal notice, a public feed that is updated regularly, and a range of perspectives within each edition. The details are in our editorial standards. Advertising, press releases and anonymous blogs are never included; feed items that the outlet itself marks as advertising are filtered out.

How can I suggest a news source?

Send an email to [Omid57@gmail.com](mailto:Omid57@gmail.com) with the subject line Source suggestion and include:

  1. the name of the outlet and its website,
  2. the address of its RSS or Atom feed, if you know it,
  3. the edition it would fit (US, UK, German, Spanish or Persian),
  4. one sentence on why it would be a good addition.

A source can be added when it:

We test every suggestion with our feed reader and reply by email. There is no right to be included, and we may remove a source again if its feed stops working or no longer meets these points.

I run a news site. Can you add, change or remove my feed?

Yes. Write to [Omid57@gmail.com](mailto:Omid57@gmail.com) from an address of your outlet. We can add your feed, show headlines only without an excerpt, or remove your outlet completely. Changes take effect at the next update, and removed items disappear from all lists.

I found a mistake. How do I report it?

For a wrong section, a broken link or a missing outlet, write to [Omid57@gmail.com](mailto:Omid57@gmail.com) or use the contact page. Mistakes in the content of a news item can only be corrected by the outlet that published it; we show its headline exactly as it appears in its feed.

Does the site use cookies or show ads?

The English, German and Spanish editions show ads from Google AdSense, which pay for running the site. Visitors from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland are first asked for their consent in a window from Google. The Persian edition shows no Google ads. The boxes "Our other websites" are clearly labelled promotion for the operator's own websites. Details are in the privacy policy and the cookie policy.

Can I install Omid57.info like an app?

Yes. In most mobile browsers, open the menu and choose "Add to Home screen" or "Install app". The site then opens in its own window. There is nothing to download from an app store.
